Smithsonian Orchid Exhibit

Posted in Exhibits, Photographic Opportunities on March 12, 2008 by jeremyswan

U.S. Botanic Garden

Through April 13, 2008

This exhibit is great for shooting orchids. During the week tripods are allowed with a permit. The numbers are controlled so you may want to call to reserve a spot.

Butterfly Exhibit

Posted in Exhibits, Photographic Opportunities on March 12, 2008 by jeremyswan

Smithsonian’s Natural History Museum
12th and Constitution Avenue Washington, D.C.
Fee: Adults-$6; Seniors-$5.50; Tuesdays-free
Cathrine Sasek notes that there is a new, expanded butterfly exhibit, with info at the following sites.

This exhibit features about 500 butterflies from around the world. Because the USDA does not
allow breeding, the Smithsonian must constantly replace specimens, which is why there is a fee.

There should be some great shots here, but check to see if tripods are allowed (they probably are not).

Photo-Eco Tour to Ecuador

Posted in Photographic Opportunities on March 12, 2008 by jeremyswan

August, 2008 for 10 days

Organized by Sanford Morris

Sanford (Sandy) Morris is a serious amateur photographer who has designed this tour for fellow photographers and nature enthusiasts.

Ecuador, the most biodiverse country on earth, has more than half of the 3,000 bird species in South America and more plants and animals per square kilometer than any other country. Add colorful indigenous cultures, 20,000 foot volcanoes, and exquisite colonial architecture, and you have a guaranteed winning recipe for photographic success.

This is not your average sightseeing tour. It is designed with photographers, naturalists, and nature lovers in mind. But it is not just about photography. How about relaxing in the finest hot spring spas in the southern hemisphere after a day of exploring and shooting in the Andes Mountains?

My Ecuadorian host for this tour is Pro-Ecuador.com. Follow their link for the full itinerary and registration: http://www.proecuador.com/Ecuador-eco-photo-tour.html. When you register, simply put the code IBSEM in the comments box for your discount.

Editor’s Note: This information came in an e-mail addressed to
photo clubs. I know nothing about this person or outfit other than
what is here.
