New Web Site

Posted in Camera Club News on April 1, 2008 by nihnow

How many of you have checked the new web site? (http://nihcc.org) If you have not done so, you should. It looks good and I have heard many positive comments. It is still a work in progress so Jeremy would still like to hear your comments.

Our club is extremely fortunate that we have had volunteers to manage our web site. Dick Terrill did it for many years even though he could not attend our meetings. He was glad to hand it over to Jeremy Swan and has been very helpful in making the transition. In spite of a very busy schedule Jeremy has found some time to work on the web site and meet with me to show me how things work. Bernard Hull has also volunteered to help and Jeremy will be using his talents also.

Thank you Dick, Jeremy, and Bernard!

March Digital Competition

Posted in Camera Club News with tags on April 1, 2008 by nihnow

In my humble opinion our first official digital competition went extremely well. This was due in large part to Ethan Kohn who had everything organized and ready to go and was very efficient as he presented the images, managed the “ins” and “outs,” and then announced the winners. I have heard horror stories from other clubs whose first attempts at digital competitions were disasters, so we can consider ourselves lucky to have people such as Ethan. Other people also helped prepare for that night – John Boretos, Peter Guion, and Dennis Glanzman plus those who gave ideas or images for testing, – and all should be thanked for doing their bit to ensure success.

There were 31 novice entries and 12 advanced entries. Several members competed for the first time and I have heard a few people saying how much easier it will be to compete now that they do not have to make prints. In general the quality of the projected images was very good although they tended to be brighter than the makers expected. Ethan and some others will continue to perfect the calibration of the equipment.
